It's getting sm-a-l-l-e-r

Music------------- First off, I use an iPod mini daily to enjoy pieces of my musiccollection. I say pieces because the mini only holds 4 GB, and I haveabout 20 GB of music. I was about to buy a larger iPod when I realizedthat it's actually kind of fun to connect my iPod to my PC at homeoccasionally and have it load up random music samplings from mycollection. That said, couldn't the PSP do the same thing? After all,it comes with a 32 MB Memory Stick Duo. Well, for starters, the MemoryStick Duo filled up on me after I dragged over just a few songs. Ofcourse, I could upgrade to a larger Memory Stick but then we'retalking about a lot more money. How much? The PSP goes for US$250 anda 512 MB Memory Stick--equivalent to the low-end iPod shuffle and mostflash-based MP3 players on the market--costs about $79. The low-endshuffle costs $99. I think it makes more sense to carry around theshuffle or an equivalent, or spend a bit more and get a hard drive-based device.- Verdict: iPod wins

Board-level Bundling

System builders and end users could benefit from the fact that Intel will soon be bundling FarStone software into some of its upcoming boards.

FarStone's RestoreIT, VirtualDrive and GameDrive utilities provide board-level system backup, disaster recovery, lost file retrieval, disk imaging and virtual CD/DVD drives.
That technology will be baked into Executive, Media and Extreme Series motherboards based on the Intel 945/955 Express chipsets -- which will support the chipmaker's upcoming dual-core processors. The feature is designed to appeal to system builders creating business, home office and gaming systems, as well as PC enthusiasts.

RestoreIT gives users a portfolio of system backup, disaster recovery, and lost file retrieval applications that hinge on a hidden, protected hard drive partition. The utility, accessible through Windows or during startup, enables users to back up their entire system easily, by creating a compressed and encrypted archive on the partition -- ideally safe from prying eyes or accidental deletion. Users can restore lost files or roll back their system to an earlier state.
With VirtualDrive and GameDrive, users can create disk images and virtual CD/DVD-ROM drives and save them locally -- enabling them to access that data (and even play disc-based games) directly from their hard drive, without inserting the actual media.

FarStone's VirtualDrive technology also allows for network administration, enabling admins to manage several machines' virtual drives at one.

Water from the air

The Dolphin2 extracts pure water from the air, then delivers it hot or cold. We’ve mentioned this type of technology before, but it looks as though this product will come with consumer friendly pricing for the home. What price the bottled water market then, eh?

The Dolphin 2 will provide membrane filtered, UV-purified and treated hot and cold water without the inconvenience of buying water refills, storing used and unused water bottles, and troublesome piping. Not only will the Dolphin 2 provide hassle-free water, it will provide filtered water on demand. The temperature units’ heating elements will not only maintain water temperature, but also provide a quick temperature recovery for steaming hot water.
